Bigfoot and Nessie in the news

Mike Conley's Tales of the Weird: Man encounters Bigfoot in cemetery
Twenty years ago, a West Virginia man experienced a startling encounter in a cemetery. And what he came across there was definitely not a ghost. One evening in the summer of 1990, a man was walking home in Marmet, W.Va., which is located in Kanawha County. In order to get home, this man had to walk through Marmet Memorial Gardens.
“It was right at dusk when I looked out into the graveyard to a far point over looking the West Virginia Turnpike,” reads the anonymous man’s report. “I saw this large creature moving about the tombstones as if to be pacing back and forth. It would stop sometimes as if to dig at a grave.” The man described the weird creature as having a “very large, dark hairy appearance.” He also said it had “ape-like movements, shrugging of the shoulders and sometimes a hop to its step.” The hairy creature stood about 80 to 100 yards away. Although this man had never believed in Bigfoot before or even had an interest in the subject, he knew immediately that he had crossed paths with one of the legendary creatures. “It finally saw me and seemed to get upset when it started its shoulder movements and hopping motions, and it seemed to start toward me as if to run me away. It worked!” read the man’s report. This man shared his story with the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO). The BFRO’s Web site is a place where folks can post their sightings anonymously and be taken seriously by qualified investigators. The folks with the BFRO will look into the matter and follow up on your sighting. An investigator from the BRFO who later interviewed this man said he felt the eyewitness to be very credible. The man who reported seeing the Bigfoot previously worked as a city councilman and a police commissioner. He is also familiar with wildlife, having hunted and lived in the country all of his life, according to the BRFO’s Web site.
Perhaps you too have seen or heard a Bigfoot. And like this man, you too can post your story on the BFRO’s site. It can be found at www.bfro.net. Source:http://www2.mcdowellnews.com/news/2010/jun/16/mike-conleys-tales-weird-man-encounters-bigfoot-ce-ar-223282/
He's a celebrity, but that doesn't mean he's above the law, people. The local sheriff's department says they filed a "suspicious person report" about the sighting, which describes this particular Bigfoot as having six fingers per hand and yellowish-blond hair. The reporting party told the local news channel that Bigfoot was harassing his dogs.“I rough-talked him and said, ‘You get away from here,’ ” he told NewsChannel 36, the Observer’s news partner.I'm not sure if you always watch the video, but you really need to see this one. The man being interviewed puts on a performance worthy of Olivier.| Permalink

Snooty’ Inverness grapples with Nessie
David Ross, Highland Correspondent 16 Jun 2010
In the 70 years since George Spicer claimed to have seen a monster near Loch Ness, tourists have flocked to the area. Now neighbouring Inverness has been accused of ignoring the mythical creature by refusing to discuss Nessie or the tartan trinkets it sells.
The claim was made at a meeting in Inverness yesterday called by Tourism Minister Jim Mather to discuss ways of boosting the city’s tourist links with the loch, visited by an estimated 500,000 people a year.Liberal Democrat councillor Thomas Prag said it was crackers that Inverness did not work more closely and identify with it. He added: “Inverness has always been a bit ambivalent about Loch Ness. We certainly don’t go abroad and talk about it. We are snooty.“We were looking for a logo for Inverness some years ago and anyone that mentioned the monster was laughed at.“Yet that’s the thing that people around the world love about the place.”People with an interest in the economic, environmental and social development of Loch Ness as one of the Highlands’ top tourist destinations had been invited to air their views to the minister. They included hoteliers, cafe owners, cruise operators and public agencies.Suggestions for improvements included cutting down trees and using the timber for biomass to heat local hotels; a bus service on the lesser-used, east-side route; letting camper vans stay overnight in public car parks; improved transport links from Inverness; and better overall access.Mather said after the meeting: “We have an iconic brand in Loch Ness, an iconic brand with the monster. Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater, make the most of it.”Graeme Ambrose, of the Destination Loch Ness group of local businesses, said people knew the loch because of Nessie, but the challenge was to promote a new idea. “That there is far more to Loch Ness than a monster,” he added.Although a monster was first recorded in the seventh century, modern interest was sparked by Spicer’s claim that he saw a creature cross the road in front of his car by the loch in July 1933. source: http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/home-news/snooty-inverness-grapples-with-nessie-1.1035087
