As recently as 1984 there have been reports of a serpent in Saddle Lake but Was the Saddle Lake Monster a hoax? There is a newspaper report about the hunt for the creature.
THE SERPENT OF SADDLE LAKE -Halloween night, 1984, an Alberta government helicopter flew out to Saddle Lake to hunt for a mysterious monster. Professor James Butler, Social Science professor at the University of Alberta feels that there may be some truth to the story.
IN1984, the local native tribal council actually closed access to the lake, partially out of fear of the monster. The University of Alberta came and patrolled the lake with a depth sounder, and a government helicopter was called in for an aerial look .Saddle Lake is downstream from Edmonton , and is connected to the river so some thought it may be Ogopogo passing through.
The ogopogo sightings were the invention of Grace Schierholtz, according to Brian Mazza he said she set out to prove that the upper reaches of the North Saskatchewan River were the spawning ground for the sorry just a short blog today as very tired.

ReplyDeleteComing from Saddle Lake Cree Nation myself I've been told that the Cree people lived in the area of Saddle Lake, known as Onicikiskwapowin in our native tongue, for generations. And in those generations a great serpent called 'kihci-manitow nipiy misi-kinêpik' was always present in lore and legends. There's hardly any pictures or videos as evidence but you will always hear stories about people seeing something strange in the lake. The lake itself is fairly small but has depths that reach hundreds of feet. During the 60's and 70's Saddle Lake was a favorite fishing spot for many non-Aboriginal peoples but many people reported seeing something strange and quit going to the lake. I'm afraid to go in the lake myself because the water is so polluted from the Indians that surround it.

DeleteI too am a Saddle Lake Cree member and lived by the lake as a child. I have heard stories from my grandfather about the serpent but, have never saw anything unusual in the lake. I'm not saying that I don't believe. I do. My uncle had told us back in the 1980's, a couple of non- aboriginal men went to fish at the lake one day and came running back to his place because they had seen something that looked so horrible that they left their fishing gear, boat and vehicle and ran. My uncle had to go with some help to retrieve their belongings because they did not want to ever go back there again. As for the comment made by anonymous: The lake was polluted by those that leased land for crop and sprayed pesticides by plane to get rid of hoppers and such. Spraying crops by plane is now banned due to the toxins in the water.

DeleteIt’s 100% real, I worked at the healing lodge, receptionist few years back. My mom would drive me to and from and the morning it was seen my nephews were with us as it was mid July n they were summer students. Working at the lodge I saw this lake day in, day out sometimes I’d have nothing to do but look at the lake cuz well, as those of us who are from therw know, the lodge is usually dead, lol. Anyhow, as reception I was always the first to arrive after the cooks. The morning of the sighting it was super hot, clear sky and not even a small whisp of wind. We pull up to the lodge, my mother has to go in to bring papers to a staff, my nephews are in the vehicle awaiting drop off. I walk into the lodge first I look in the great room and the cook is standing by the window in shock. I look at him n like hey are you ok? He says, the snake is in the water. I was excited I was like no fucking way I drop all my shit n go running to the window. Like omg some ppl can wait their whole lives n never experience this I was so intrigued. So i go stand where he is my mother follows; low n behold there is a 4 foot high 6 foot long massive black hump just swimming. That’s it, a black hump two waves on the side of it. I then need to see more so my mom fetches my nephews I run to the shore of the lake alone. I stand there in awe just watching this hump swim in a straight line in the middle of the lake. I look down at the shore n I notice like this thing must be huge, there’s ducks swimming, no waves. The water is what else I’d never forget. There was not one ripple not one wave; it was so calm it looked like glass. The birds which usually are all over the lake, are oddly at the shore. N literally by the trees not moving, super eeery cuz I stood there n they didn’t even fly away. So I’m observing this monstrosity of a black hump just swim. Two waves beside the hump, then shortly later my nephews come to the shore, no one speaks we just watch it. Now from beginning to end this was a 20 minute observation of 4 individuals ages 14-55 so no one was seeing things, we were all of sound mind. As this thing swims it suddenly does a B line north from its extremely straight swim line pattern, towards late Robbie wahsatnows place. After it reaches the exact middle of the lake. And the hump just disappears. I was like , holy shit I cannot believe what’ I just saw. N then we all go back into the lodge completely amazed like WOW, like what to do with this information, lol. I then observe the lake again, there’s suddenly waves back in it again, little ripples as usual and it looks blue not like a glass mirror. That was odd, it was like everything stoped for this creature to make its self be seen even the water refused to get in the way of it. It was amazing for sure, I hope one day more people will do as I did after and get the story of why I saw what I did at that time from the old people. There’s a reasons in our creation for everything. So don’t go try look for this thing just leave it alone, it will decide who is to see it and when.

Im A member of the Saddle Lake Cree Nation, and when i was a yung buck back in the day, well im 18 now but..back when in the day Me, My Dad, And My Mosom went to The Pump House/ Beach to go fishing.. We all stood at the shore and my dad and mosom would swing the hook their farthest and let me reel it back in.. Eventually as we were all chilling in the beautiful hot day, waiting.. What Had To Be Known As The Largest Unknown Snake in The world Jumped out of the river and its body twirled up abit and made a little rainbow/ Horse Shoe with its whole body and It wet back in the water like a beast.. I remember My Mosom Saying Look And we alllooked and i remember him n my dad Telling me, the legend about the saddle lake snake and I was really Amused to have experienced that, i felt really blessed to know what i saw and safe knowing my dad and mosom were with me.. We Stayed for 20 more minutes until we caught a fish. when we saw the snake it was about 20 to 30 bus lengths away. We Didnt Rush In Panic We Just Chilled out and my mosom Had a 12 Guage so It was G. but believe me this Story is no joke. im glad to have found this Webpage And Know It has Been Known to a select few for quite a while.. This Occured around 2012.. and I Pray that the Unknown Beast/ Snake does well n does no harm to our people During rest of its lifetime, May Its Offspring Do No Harm.. In Order For The Saddle Lake Snake To BE Captured, A Stable< Strong team is going to need to use Some Techology such as Strong Hd Cameras, And Strong Nets To Capture The Snake If Possible. It Obviously HAs UNder GRound Dens but Waterproof technology can capture Clips Of The Snake In ACtion If Set In THe RIghts Spots.. Hopefully theres technology that can be used to capture under water Civilization in Saddlelake here. But Maybe Its Best To Just Let It Be. People Can Still Go There Every Now and then but Rmember this Story When You Go If you stay long enough or perhaps go at a certain time theres a chance of you experiencing this for yourself. This Snake Is Obviously Smart, and is adequate with all Its Moves That It Makes.. I Dont Know If Tis Was Some Some sort Of Demon But im Pretty Sure it just some KingPin Snake That Is AT Least 30 to 40 Meters Long and At least 3 ft in Radius... This Story of this Snake Can Just Be Swept Off Peoples mind and most certainly it always is or is never even thought of or was never even known, But This Snake Is No Joke On earth... On This BArely Touch Lake but certainly polluted from the Past inconsiderate People that visited. Besides That The Saddle Lake Snake IS Most Certainly Home to the Snake/ Legend. As a Member of Saddle Lake Cree Nation I Accept This Snake As A Endangered Species but is also Predator that has obviously an ancient and possily "immortal" Being That seems to ave been living for Centurys.. If It Has OffSpring May They Live Sweet Lives And Do No Harm To our strong Native american People.. Hiy Hiy

Was pretty trippy cause we wete so far out. We paddled as fast as we could back to the shore.. I know got a fact what we seen was real and that there is a saddle lake snake
