Loch Lochy Creature and Nessie the same monster?

Loch Lochy (Scottish Gaelic, Loch Lochaidh) is a large freshwater lake located southwest of Loch Ness. It is ten miles long and one mile wide and is said to be the home of Lizzie, a creature described as similar to the Loch Ness Monster, Nessie.. Loch Lochy is only separated from Loch Ness by Loch Oich. Loch Oich is said to contain several holes reported to go as deep as 2000 feet. This of course has given rise to the possibility that animals from Loch Ness are also being seen in the other two lochs.
Lizzie was first sighted in 1929 by two game wardens near Spean Bridge..
The two game wardens believed at first that they where looking at nothing more than debris from a large fallen tree. When one of the two men took a closer look through his telescope they soon realized that they where looking at much more than a fallen tree but a large unidentified beast, they continued to watch the creature swim for about a mile before it submerged back into the depths of the loch.
1930: A man living on the loch side saw a strange creature in the water one day - he told his wife never to wash her clothes there again!Other reports came and in 1933 the monks of Fort Augustus Abbey began to chronicle known sightings.
In 1960, while staying in a caravan near Glen Fintaig, Eric Robinson, his family, and nine other witnesses, spotted what looked to be a standing wave in the centre of the loch.It appeared to be caused by a living creature Viewing the animal through binoculars he estimated that the animal was between 30 and 40-feet in length, with a dark spine and a paler underbelly. Robinson and the other witnesses claimed the creature began to roll in the water exposing a huge flipper before disappearing into the loch. This sighting was witnessed by nine other people.
1975: Mrs. Margaret Sargent of Fort William was passing the loch with her husband and family near the Corriegour Hotel when they saw an unusual wake on the flat calm loch. A long black shape could be seen moving through the water. As she took a photo, the object disappeared below the water and the subsequent picture showed only the wake.(see link below to Nik Sargent’s story)
In 1996 while fishing for pike in the loch, angler Alastair Stevenson encountered a creature approximately 18-feet in length and roughly the shape of an overturned rowboat. The creature reportedly took Stevenson’s bait and began to pull the vessel. Stevenson was quoted as saying, "I knew immediately it wasn't a pike with that ferocity. I had to stop the line but when I did the power started dragging the boat behind it. All the time I'm thinking it was like a scene from Jaws. Fortunately my line and rod snapped and that was the end of that. I have no idea what it was, but it was a lot bigger than a pike
An expedition the same year led by crypto zoologist Cameron Turner, had a contact with a large object near Spean Bridge, where the very first reported sighting took place. The contact was estimated as being between 18 and 20-feet in length, and was moving at a depth of 160-feet below the surface. Approximately two minutes later, after the boat sharply turned starboard in order to pursue the contact, a second contact was made, this time at a depth of 200 feet. As the boat approached the centre of the Loch, above an abysmal trench which is reportedly over 300-feet deep, the objects disappeared. Cameron returned to the Loch again in September 1997, and hired a boat from the family of Alastair Stevenson, the same man who had the 1996 encounter with the creature. The team had another contact about 270 feet down in the loch. During the 3 minutes the team managed to follow the contact they where able to get clear pictures of the sonar screen . nothing. They also had readings showing sonar hits of over 2000 feet deep, which appeared to be holes in the bottom of the Loch,.
Loch Oich is located between Loch Ness and Loch Lochy in the Great Glen and the three locks are connected and form part of the Caledonian Canal. A strange beast has also been reported in Loch Oich. Described as a dog headed serpent, with a horse like mane, two humps, black skin and a snake like neck, very like the descriptions of the creature reported in Loch Ness.
Sightings of the Loch Oich Monster date back to the 19th century. The Loch Oich Monster is also reported to have caused at least a death. The story goes that some time in the 20th century the Loch Oich Monster reportedly drowned a young boy, who allegedly climbed on the creatures back in hopes of catching a ride, when the beast submerged the boy was dragged below the surface and drowned.
In 1961 hoaxers reportedly planted an artificial monster in the dark waters of Loch Oich in order to take some photographs and cash in on the monsters popularity. This has not helped serious investigation in the area.
Eye witness accounts:
Lizzie, a three humped first cousin of Nessie, the Loch Ness Monster, surfaced again last week on Loch Lochy. And several people, locals and vistors, confirmed on Thursday the sighting of the water beast.Staff and guests at the Corriegour Lodge Hotel watched in amazement as a dark shaped twelve foot long "something" caused a commotion on the loch which is overlooked by the hotel.Guests and waitresses at Corriegour Lodge rushed to the picture window of the dining room to get a better view of the creature which had come to the surface."At first we thought what we were seeing was an upturned boat", said husband and wife Derick and Lindsay Burney, from Hornchurch, who were having dinner at the hotel."Then suddenly it started moving backwards, and then round in circles, and we noted that it had three humps. It was causing quite a stir. It was very large, about twelve feet in length, and it wasn't a seal or any other mammal we've ever seen before. And we've been coming to Loch Lochy on boating holidays for the past seven years"
Lorna Bunney, joint proprietor with her husband Rod, of Corriegour Lodge revealed that she had originally seen a marine animal in the loch three weeks previously."I thought at first that it was just the wake from a cabin cruiser but it was too fast, and the ripples too close together for that. I ran to look out of the kitchen door and I realised it was some kind of creature. I've never seen anything like it before." Source:
The Sargent family 1975 sighting told by their son::
And report this from 1996 claims to have found a body:
It is intriguing that the first sighting of Lizzie was before the 1933 media frenzy over Loch Ness. There are reports of a hole in the bottom of Loch Ness(Edward’s Deep) . Perhaps there are tunnels between the Lochs, but it seems unlikely that no one has found them before. It still is an interesting idea that the creatures(or fish or eels or whatever they are) could travel between the lochs, and hence their ability to hide from sonar and researchers. Plus there have been land sightings of Nessie but it would seem unlikely it could travel via land between lochs and not be spotted.
Seems like new developments may mean there are tunnels to discover :

new discovery of ancient marine creature fossils

The largest ever sea-dwelling crocodile has been uncovered in Tunisia. It was longer than a great white shark and its skull was as big as a person
By Melissa Hogenboom 14 January 2016
A new species of a marine-dwelling crocodile has been discovered in Tunisia in northern Africa. It lived about 130 million years ago, at the start of a period called the Cretaceous. At the time dinosaurs dominated the land and huge reptiles ruled the seas. The beast has been given the appropriate moniker Machimosaurus rex, which translates as "fighting lizard-king". It was over 30ft (10m) long, about the size of a large bus. Its skull alone was over 5ft (1.6m) long.

Whenever there are new discoveries it means there is more to discover which gives hope to the idea of cryptids being discovered.

Barmouth Monster photographed?

Stunned residents spot mysterious creature in estuary
Sunday, 3 January 2016 By Mike Lewis in Local People
STUNNED residents of Aberaeron are wondering if the Barmouth Monster – that fabled creature of the 1970s – has reappeared much further south. The monster made national headlines in the summer of 1975 after a group of schoolchildren reportedly saw an unidentified creature on Barmouth’s vast beach. The frightened kids ran off to get help and came across a patrolling policeman who followed them back to the sand dunes just in time to see the beast submerging into the sea.
Now Llanarth pensioner Mohammad Tahla has produced a curious photo (above) of a monster-like shape he recently spotted in the estuary of the River Aeron.Inevitably it has sparked speculation that the Barmouth Monster has migrated south.

Was the Lambton Worm a Lake cryptid?

The tale of the Lambton Worm is about a legendary cryptid in .Durham  (the areaalso has lots of sightings of big cats.)
The tale is set in the time of the crusades around the river Wear in Durham UK.
John Lambton, the young heir to Lambton Hall, was fishing on the river Wear one Sunday morning, instead of being at church. Something large started to tug on the hook so he reeled it in. It was a black worm like creature, which was only small, but twisted and coiled with great power. It had needle sharp teeth and seemed to secrete a sticky slime. Cursing, he went to throw the creature back when an old man appeared from behind him, he looked at what Lambton had caught, and warned Lambton not to throw the creature back into the river. "It bodes no good for you but you must not cast it back into the river, you must keep it and do with it what you will." The old man walked away.
John Lambton threw the creature into an ancient well on the road back to the hall.
John Lambton grew up and went off to the crusades. The water in the well where he had thrown the creature became poisoned, strange venomous vapours were seen rising out of the well, and village gossip surmised that the well had been cursed, and that something unworldly lived in its depths. When the worm reached maturity, it climbed out of the well and wrapped itself three times around a rocky island in the middle of the river.
The villagers saw the creature and called it a dragon. The dragon had no legs or wings, but a thick muscled body that rippled as it moved. Its head was large and its gaping maw bristled with razor sharp teeth, venomous vapours trailed from its nostrils and mouth as it breathed. The creature became hungry and started to rampage around the countryside, always returning to its hill or Worms Rock in the river Wear. It took small lambs and sheep and ate them whole, and it tore open cows udders with its razor teeth to get at the milk, which it could smell from miles away. Villagers who were brave enough to tackle the beast were crushed and killed.
Eventually when the dragon approached Lambton Hall, the locals had heard about it and were ready for its coming. They filled a large stone trough with warm milk and the creature plunged into the trough and drained it dry. Now full the worm returned to its river abode. This became a ritual that went on for seven years. The dragon stopped killing the cows and the sheep and only ventured up to the hall for its daily offering of milk. As the years passed the trail became marked by a path of dark slime and the life around the area returned to normal. Occasionally people would come and try and slay the worm but didn’t survive and the worm continued.
John Lambton returned from the crusades a battle hardened knight. When he heard of the worm he devised plan to kill the beast. He went to the wise woman who lived in Brugeford to gain her advice. She told him that the plight of the village was his fault and that it was his duty to remedy the situation: “You and you alone can kill the worm, go to the blacksmith, and have a suit of armour wrought with razor sharp spear heads studded throughout its surface. Then go to the worm's rock and await its arrival. But mark my words well, if you slay the beast you must put to death the first thing that crosses your path as you pass the threshold of Lambton Hall. If you do not do this then three times three generations of Lambtons will not die in their beds.” John swore an oath to uphold this. He then went to the local blacksmith and had him forge a suit of armour embedded in double-edged spikes. The next day he engaged in battle with the worm in the river. Every time the dragon tried to embrace him it cut itself to ribbons on the spikes, so that pieces of its flesh were sliced off and floated down the river on a crimson tide. Eventually the worm grew so weak that he could despatch it with one heavy sword blow to its head.
He then let out three blasts on his bugle to tell of his victory, and as a signal for the servants to release his favourite hound from the house to complete his vow. Unfortunately the servants forgot in the commotion and joy, and as John passed over the threshold of the hall his father rushed out to greet him. Dismayed John blew another blast on his horn and the servants released the hound, which John killed with one sweeping blow from his sword. But it was too late, the vow was broken and for generations after none of the Lambtons died in their beds. It is said that the last one died while crossing over Brugeford Bridge over a hundred and forty years ago.
Songs and poems about the worm live on. There are two hills one called Worm Hill and another called Penshaw Hill both supposed to be the worm’s home. Penshaw Hill as markings around it which from a distance could be where a large worm curled but are more likely to be man made as at one time it was a fort.
What I find so interesting about the story is the description could be any water cryptid, serpentine and black ,reaching enormous size. Could there have been some truth in the story and a cryptid was living in the River Wear at one time? There were also tales of a big fish in the river.Could they have been stories about the same cryptid? Interesting thought to mull over.

Crater lake Monster

Is there a monster in Crater lake? (and no I am not talking about the old B movie)
.
Stories of creatures residing in the deep waters of Crater Lake have been around for a long time, from tales of dragons living there told by the indigenous population to settlers. In May 2002 the monster story resurfaced in the Fort Meyers News-Star newspaper. A woman that lived in Albany, Georgia named Mattie Hatcher recalled visiting Crater Lake when she was a child and getting a glimpse of something strange. She was out on a rowboat with some of her friends when something "a block long" swam underneath the boat and gave them all a good fright. She recounted, "I have never been so scared in my life. What we saw that day was a monster. To me, it looked like a dragon. I know why the Indians call that place Lost Lake. They say monsters live in it. I believe them. I know, because I saw one there."
I tracked down a copy of the original article.:
Georgia woman discovers the mystery of Crater Lake
Most callers to the number printed at the bottom of this column have general questions about travel. They want to know about places to vacation, estimates of cost, whether this cruise line is better than another cruise line, and the like. There are answers for most questions, but more than one is a stumper, especially those concerning how much money a traveler should take to a place the person answering the telephone has never heard of. Occasionally, however, a call comes in that really spices the day. It happened recently, and the person responsible is a lively lade from Albany, Georgia, named Mattie Hatcher. Mrs. Hatcher receives the News-Star at her home. She is interested in all things happening in Lehigh Acres. As you might expect, her interest starts with the fact she owns several lots in town. However, Mrs. Hatcher’s call did not involve her real estate interests. She had read a recent column here on Oregon. It took her back to when she lived there and the day she got the scare of her life. It happened when she and some friends were in a rowboat on Crater Lake. She learned then why Indians living in the area seldom refer to the body of water as Crater Lake. To them, it is Lost Lake. According to Mrs. Hatcher, the Indians say that monsters live there. She believes that what the Indians say is true. Had you experienced what Mrs. Hatcher and her friends did, that day on the lake, you might become a believer as well. Now for those inclined to think that the lady from Albany, Georgia is overly imaginative, it should be pointed out that her life has been one of strong realities. You get that way when much of experience has involved being a registered nurse and physiotherapist. Before getting into Mrs. Hatcher’s story, a refresher about the mysterious lake. Located near the border Oregon shares with California, the lake is easily reached from Klamath Falls, one of the world’s favorite places for seeing bald eagles. Every February, the city hosts the Bald Eagle Conference, a gathering of eagle lovers from throughout the world. Carter Lake is around 400 feet deep, and the water is so clear that you can see all the way to the bottom. The beautiful lake attracts people from around the state. When Mrs. Hatcher visited the lake, she was living in Oregon’s Hood River Valley. Folk from there often went boating on Crater Lake. Mrs. Hatcher was looking over the side of the rowboat when she saw it and felt her heart freeze. Others in the boat saw it too. They were as frightened by it as Mrs. Hatcher. It swam deep down in the lake, and it was unbelievably big. “That thing must have been a block long,” she said. “I have never been so scared in my life. What we saw that day was a monster. To me, it looked like a dragon. I know why the Indians call that place Lost Lake. They say monsters live in it. I believe them. I know, because I saw one there.” Mrs. Hatcher and her friends got to shore as fast as they could row. They told their story, but nobody really believed them. To Mrs. Hatcher, that does not matter. She knows that the story is true, because she was there.

There haven't been any more recent recorded sightings I could find. Perhaps someone reading this may know differently. Sounds like a large Eel and to a child and in the reflection of the water, it would appear much larger. Still interesting and not as funny as the movie.
