New Nessie sighting by locals

Loch Ness Monster sighting reported by locals

FOYERS shop and cafe owner Jan Hargreaves and her husband Simon believe they caught a glimpse of Loch Ness’s most elusive resident — Nessie. It was while taking a break on the store’s front decking — looking out to the loch — when Mrs Hargreaves and kitchen worker Graham Baine spotted an unusual figure cutting a strange shape through the water.“We were standing looking out and saw something that looked bizarre,” said Mrs Hargreaves.“I said to my husband to come and have a look.“We stand here all the time and look out and we see boats and kayaks but it didn’t look like anything we have seen here before.”Despite the unidentified creature being quite a distance from their vantage point, 51-year-old Mrs Hargreaves said it had a long neck which was too long to be that of a seal and it was black in appearance.“It went under the water and disappeared for probably 30 to 40 seconds and then came back up again,” said Mrs Hargreaves.“It was around for a good four to five minutes. It was just so strange.”Keen to stress she is not seeking publicity, Mrs Hargreaves does firmly believe what she saw was the Loch Ness Monster.“It was so exciting,” she declared.Since August last year, The Waterfall Cafe and Foyers Stores with post office, opposite the village’s famous Falls of Foyers, has been run by Mr and Mrs Hargreaves.Nessie hunter Steve Feltham, who lives in a former mobile library turned research centre on Dores beach, said he heard about the possible sighting when he popped into the store last week and believes because it was from residents rather than tourists, it is more credible.“I’m excited by the fact it was locals who had seen it,” said Mr Feltham.“It’s quite a distance from the shop to the water and they watch everything that goes on there.“For them to be impressed then there is a possibility it could have been Nessie.”What particularly excited Mr Feltham was that it was from the exact same vantage point where Tim Dinsdale shot the best footage of the legendary creature back in 1960.“I’ll put the sightings with the other sightings,” said Mr Feltham. “I will also continue to carry out surface observations.”The sighting was recorded on Wednesday afternoon between 2.30pm and 3pm

remarkable underwater photos of walruses,

I am the walrus (and that's the tooth): Stunning underwater shots of giant beasts at play
By Daily Mail Reporter
A wildlife photographer has taken these remarkable close-up underwater photos of ten foot walruses as he went eyeball-to-eyeball with them.Paul Souders, 50, from Seattle, U.S., was headbutted by the giant mammals - with 12 inch tusks - as he swam next to them.He travelled 3,500 miles to Spitzbergen, Norway, to take the close up pictures of the sea creatures which weigh up to one and a half tonnes. The photographer joined a three-week long expedition to the remote island.
'As the pack ice recedes in summer, the walruses haul out onto gravel beaches, sometimes in massive belching, farting and fighting piles,' explained Paul.'When they're not resting and sleeping onshore, most will swim out from shore to their shallow feeding grounds.

This gives some idea of what it must be like to meet an aquatic cryptid face to face , but cryptids would be more scary I think.

Chupacabra filmed ,or is it a dog?

Chupacabra Found in Texas, Leaving Bigfoot as the Ultimate Cryptid
June 17, 2011 by Tom Rose
A Chupacabra was found in Helotes, Texas and the video evidence shows a creature only thought to exist in children's nightmares or as a ghost tale told by the campfire. Although scientists have yet to confirm an entirely new, previously unknown species, the pictures of the animal (called "goat sucker" in Mexico) and another found in Stockdale, TX leave little doubt that the bloodsucking creature, whispered about for decades, is in fact real. Chupacabras.JPGThe video below is a news report from a local station that shows the horrific creature, in rigor mortis, displaying the chilling anomalies that scientists have scoffed at for years. The unusually long fangs, the hairless skin, and, most disturbing, the opposable thumbs. Until now there have been no animals discovered, other than primates, which have that distinguishing feature.

Looks like another hairless dog to me.

Prize for cryptid photo and the loss of a river

io9 Offers $2000 Bounty For Authentic Photos Of Cryptids
Annalee Newitz — This summer, io9 is going cryptozoological. We're offering a $2000 bounty to the person who sends us the best authentic photo or video of a "cryptid," or mystery animal. And that's just the beginning of Cryptid Summer.
The Bounty
io9 will be offering a $2000 bounty for the best photographic or video evidence of a genuine cryptid. In August, we will invite our panel of experts, including zoologists, the team behind excellent cryptid blog Cryptomundo, cryptid expert Loren Coleman, and a photoshop analyst, to judge which pictures are the most authentic. We'll give the bounty to the one that they judge to be the most mysterious yet authentic creature.

Last chance to see: the Amazon's Xingu River
Jeremy Hance mongabay.com June 15, 2011
Not far from where the great Amazon River drains into the Atlantic, it splits off into a wide tributary, at first a fat vertical lake that, when viewed from satellite, eventually slims down to a wild scrawl through the dark green of the Amazon. In all, this tributary races almost completely southward through the Brazilian Amazon for 1,230 miles (1,979 kilometers)—nearly as long as the Colorado River—until it peters out in the savannah of Mato Grosso. Called home by diverse indigenous tribes and unique species, this is the Xingu River."The Xingu River is a symbol of Brazil's cultural diversity and biological heritage. The river and its forests sustain the livelihoods of over 25,000 indigenous people from 18 ethnic groups, riverbank populations and innumerable species of plants and animals," Christian Poirier, the Brazil Program Coordinator with Amazon Watch, told mongabay.com.
Extracts: The Xingu River, however, will soon be lost. No, the river will not be filled in or disappear entirely; but its very character (the ecosystem and people which it provides for) will be forever changed by the construction of a monster dam, the Belo Monte, just approved by the Brazilian government. Once built the dam will be the world's third largest.
Experts fear for a number of species that only live in the Xingu River or its floodplains (see photos below), including the slender dwarf pike cichlid (Teleocichla centisquama), a unique species of plant-eating piranha (Ossubtus xinguense), the Xingu dart-poison frog (Allobates crombiei), and two pleco fish, also known as 'suckerfish', who thrive in the Xingu's clear waters: the aptly-named zebra pleco (Hypancistrus zebra) and the sunshine pleco (Scobinancistrus aureatus).

Proof of bigfoot ?

Bigfoot Investigators Hope DNA Test Will Confirm Existence Of Two Man-Beasts
California Bigfoot investigators were shocked over Memorial Day weekend when they found strange markings and hair on their pickup truck windows. Now, they're hoping DNA tests will prove once and for all the existence of the legendary man-beast."On the passenger side window, when I first saw it, I almost threw up," said Jeffrey Gonzalez, an AT&T electronics technician and founder of the Sanger Paranormal Society.Gonzalez and several others were in California's Sierra National Forest searching for evidence to confirm the reality of the creature. When it started to snow at their campsite, they were forced to leave two of their vehicles behind.

Bigfoot Sightings

Looking for Bigfoot? County has had its share of mysterious sightings
   By Judy Jenkins
Extract:
Bart interviews those who report sightings and keeps track of how many sightings each Kentucky county has had since '97. Anderson County ties with Henderson County at 11 reports, and Carter County has had the most: 13. Four sightings are listed for Union County, and none for Webster County. The most recent report here is said to have occurred on March 12 this year in an area just off Wathen Lane.Three youths who were fishing in a pond said a noise was first heard, and then the creature was seen standing on the far side of the pond.Bart took their account and wrote, "I've found that children are less apt to lie than adults, more often than not."
In September, 2010, a lone motorist was driving down Baskett Lane right before dusk when he reportedly observed a large figure standing upright next to some trees in a small thicket. The motorist said the creature, who was estimated at between seven and eight feet tall, stared right back at him for a time and then disappeared into the woods.
Then there's an April, 2009 account from a woman who lives near 136-West.She said she heard a strange howling in the evening and when she went outside to try and identify the source, she saw an outline of a huge figure in the pasture next door. Her pit bull, apparently not usually afraid of much, "whimpered and got down on her belly and crawled back into the house...She refused to go back outside for over an hour."

Dinosaur bones confirm similarities in different parts of the world

Australian dinosaur had UK double
By Jonathan Amos Science correspondent, BBC News

A 5cm-wide (2in) fossil may have something big to say about how dinosaurs ranged across the Earth. The 125-million-year-old neck vertebra belonged to a spinosaurid - an animal with a crocodile-like snout that it probably used to prey on fish. The specimen is the first such dinosaur identified in Australia but one that is nearly identical to a UK creature. This suggests northern and southern hemisphere dinos had a lot more in common than previously thought. The traditional idea has been that these ancient animals could be placed into distinctive, geographically separated, groups. This small vertebra undermines that view, says Dr Paul Barrett from London's Natural History Museum."After looking at this specimen and having been forced to re-assess the distribution of spinosaurids, we took a look at other dinosaur groups from Australia, including the Tyrannosaur our team announced last year," he told BBC News."Taking all this evidence into account, we started to realise that a lot of dinosaur groups we'd thought of as either northern specialists or southern specialists actually had more cosmopolitan distributions."It may be just one bone, but the team says it displays features that are unmistakably those of a spinosaurid.

If this is the case perhaps it helps towards the explanations for so many cryptids in different parts of the world being similar such as bigfoot and yeti, nessie and other lake creatures. I am not saying they are all dinosaurs  but taking into account  evolution , if these creatures are relics of another era , they would have possibly evolved in some similar ways, perhaps keeping the same basic shape. Just a midweek speculative thought for you
