supersize polar spiders.

What’s Supersizing Antarctica’s Sea Spiders?
Polar sea spiders grow bigger than their equatorial brethren.
by Meredith Swett Walker  .December 29, 2015
With eight spindly legs, a minimalist body, and long proboscis, sea spiders look like something from the fever dream of an arachnophobic science fiction author. But sea spiders are very real, and they live all over the world. And in the dark, cold waters of the polar oceans, sea spiders grow big, huge—their legs spanning the width of your face.Formally known as pycnogonids, sea spiders are a primitive group of marine arthropods. They’re not technically spiders. Most often, sea spiders are small, cryptic creatures.Yet in the Arctic Ocean and Southern Ocean, sea spiders grow huge. But they’re not the only ones that do. The polar oceans are awash in creatures of unusual size, including copepods, echinoderms, and certain mollusks that grow larger than their more equatorial relatives—a phenomenon called “polar gigantism.”

just a cheering thought as the new year approaches....giant spiders .What else could be lurking that is giant size in polar waters?

New sighting of Lake Norman monster?

Park Ranger and Clerk Spot Nessie-Like Creature in North Carolina

Posted on Dec 23 2015
Ted Hill, a 42-year-old man who claims to be a park ranger working in the area, told Cryptozoology News he was at Lake Norman on Dec. 21 when he saw the strange animal eating a duck.
I was looking out for a beach,” said Hill. “Then a duck was yanked under and a huge animal rose up,” he added.
Hill says the sighting lasted about two minutes and that the creature looked like the “Loch Ness Monster”.
It was smaller, 12 feet long.”

How Nessie might swim?

200-year-old fossil mystery resolved
By Helen Briggs BBC News
Scientists have reconstructed how an ancient reptile swam in the oceans at the time of the dinosaurs.Computer simulations suggest the plesiosaur moved through the water like a penguin, using its front limbs as paddles and back limbs for steering. The creature's swimming gait has been a mystery since bones of the first known specimen were dug out of a Dorset cliff 200 years ago.The plesiosaur was discovered by the fossil hunter Mary Anning in 1821.At the time even the name dinosaur had not been invented. A scientific paper unveiling Anning's find a few years later raised the question of how the marine creature swam, given its unusual pairs of wing-like flippers. The debate has continued until today, with a computer simulation based on a Jurassic fossil specimen providing evidence in favour of penguin-like motion.

Chupacabra in California ?

Posted on Dec 9 2015 - 8:21pm by Cryptozoology News
ORANGE COUNTY — A California resident said she saw a “small man-like creature” on Ortega highway 74 and that it attacked a man living in the area.
Amber, who provided a last name but was omitted for anonymity purposes, said she was heading to Lake Elsinore from work when she drove upon the creature back in May.
“It was raining and I turned my brights on,” she told Thomas Marcum. “It was in the middle of the road and turned its body in my direction.”
The small humanoid then reportedly ran across the road and disappeared in the woods. The sighting lasted 10 seconds, she explained.Amber said the creature was about 1 or 2 feet tall and that it was “dark colored like the trees”.

There have been other strange sightings in the county:
There have been recent reports of the Chupacabra in California, Texas, Miami, and throughout Mexico. One of the first attacks in the U.S. was in Tuscon, Arizona where Billy Nubian's two goats were attacked by a creature in the middle of the night. He described it as a large "ratlike" creature, which when spotted, let out an "unhuman shriek" and ran away.
In Baja California, a dog was found with two puncture marks in the neck. In Miami, there was apparently a bloodbath when 69 farm animals were killed in one night. Throughout the countryside are reports of dead animals with the puncture marks in their necks. Elizabeth Saavedra claimed she was attacked by a chupacabra in the middle of the night.”
There have been stories about a lake monster in that area:
So am area of strangeness but as for Chupacabra ,the jury is still out on that one.

The Ahool sighted?

Almada resident Pedro Roque told Cryptozoology News on Sunday that he and his three friends were exploring a nearby forest in late August when the unidentified winged creature showed up.
“I and another friend heard a noise above. It looked like a large flying animal, perhaps a giant bat,” Roque explained.
The sighting reportedly lasted only a few seconds.
“Only a great flying black figure with wings. It looks a bit like a giant bat.”
Roque said he and his friends had never seen anything like it before. Large bats, such as the endangered species Acerodon jubatus, also known as the golden-capped fruit bat, are not endemic to Portugal.

Could it have been an Ahool?

The Ahool is a legendary giant bat. It is named because of its distinctive call ahooool. It was reported in the rainforests of Java. It is described as having an ape-like face with large dark eyes, large claws on its forearms and a body covered in grey fur. It is said to have a wingspan of 10 feet (3 metres), it’s flattened forearms supporting its leathery wings. It has reported as being seen squatting on the forest floor, and appeared to be the size of a small child , about 4 feet(1.1 metre) in height. The Ahool’s habits are to spend it's days in waterfall caves, while it spends nights skimming across the jungle waterways scooping up fish with large claws located on the top of it's forearms.

And do giant bats exist:

Would it be warm enough in Portugal for giant bats to exist there? With global warming anything is possible.

on all hallows eve- do witches exist?

What is a witch? A witch uses nature ,herbs, crystals and so on and the power of the  mind to change things using talismans, spells and influence. Do they still exist? The modern witch can be a hedge witch ,who works alone or part of a coven. They can be male or female, pagan or wiccan ,voodoo,  in fact the variety of witches and beliefs is as great as any other religion. It is a type of religion or a way of life.
The old  witches, the wise women, used herbal medicines and psychology ,before it was called psychology, to heal and influence. The power of the  mind is the greatest magic. A person can make a voodoo doll of you and say they have stuck a pin in your right arm. You may scoff and ignore it but if you have the slightest doubt in your  mind, it will play  on your  mind and you will find your arm hurting. That is a simple example but it is basically how voodoo works ,the effect on the  mind causes the illness to happen.
A modern witch can use the internet. There are spells online, covens that can be joined and ingredients for sale. There are forums to discuss working of spells and what will be best for an outcome.
.Serious witches respect nature, the seasons and the earth. They strive to do good. "Do what thy wilt but harm none" is often quoted.
So are there white witches and black witches? If you believe in magic and it's practice you take a choice to do good, serve others or do evil ,be self serving. In reality most practitioners
have a foot in both camps because sometimes bad things need to happen to bad people.
So do witches exist? Certainly they do in great variety but they are not the broomstick riding ,crackling hags of folktales.  They are modern men and women who chose to follow a different path from organised religions.
Do spells work? Sometimes it appears they do.Is it coincidence or power of the  mind? You will have to decide that for yourself. On all hallows eve they say the veil between worlds is thin and the ancestors draw close, magic is stronger and works better. Maybe try a spell for yourselves and see if it works .

Loch Fyne monster or Marine Mammal?

Divers recently captured footage of dolphins playing in Loch Fyne.

https://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/news/scotland/730817/video-diver-captures-magical-underwater-footage-dolphins-scottish-loch/

There are tales about a monster in the Loch but from many centuries ago.
A paragraph in the book by Sir Archibald Dunbar ‘Scottish Kings’ (1899) stated that in July 1570  a creature which was the size of a ship’s mast was seen to surface in Loch Fyne. It was described as having“great eyes”. It was said locally that sometime later a huge unidentified carcass was found on the banks of the loch. No further information was available. It is not the supernatural event that is supposed to take place on the Loch, in the waters  close  to Inveraray there is supposed to be a phantom ship which marks the imminent death of a senior member of the Campbell clan. It was last sighted in 1913 when three members of the ship’s crew were seen on  deck. It also moves over land.
So folk tales you may think but then I came across an article in The Glasgow Herald from 17th August 1949.
Mr P Talbot of Caernarvonshire was on a yachting holiday. His chauffeur was with him according to the article. They saw a great creature in the Loch. It was described as 25-30 feet long with a dorsal hump or fin. It had a long neck about 2 feet out of the water and a white face. He was about an hour away from Ardrishaig sailing in the yacht and the creature was about 80 yards away.
See the original article here:
Basking Sharks are known to enter the Loch and in 1939 it was reported that one 30 feet long startled two fishermen. So could the white faced monster have been the face of a dolphin standing out of the water with others in the water behind   it?  It was 80 yards away. However you would have thought most people would recognise a dolphin.Something to ponder on a Friday  afternoon .

Sea serpents of the Orkney Islands

Stories of sea serpents abound in the Orkneys, but there has been a number of documented "sightings", over the years, of strange sea creatures.
In 1850 a boy, Alec Groundwater, was spending a day in Orphir .He was on the shore, perched on some rocks, gazing out over the Scapa Flow his legs dangling out into the water. The sea beneath him suddenly began to boil and an animal with a broad, flat head and a wide mouth containing some “wicked” looking teeth or tusks surfaced before rearing up and attempting to seize the lads dangling legs. Obviously the creature failed to gab him or he would not have been around to tell the story . He said it dived beneath the sea surfacing once to “shake its head and mane till the water cascaded from it on all sides, then disappeared”.
Then there is Gilbert Voy's account of his sighting in the early 1900’s of a sea monster in Inganess Bay
“Now, one afternoon in the early autumn, my sister and I were in the ebb gathering whelks which we intended to sell. This was our chief method of raising funds to spend at the Lammas Market. On this day, we had quite a lot gathered when we noticed the sky becoming very black and overcast. It looked as if we were in for a thunderstorm and we were thinking of making for home when we heard a bit of a commotion in the water at our side. On looking up, we saw a huge animal rearing its head over the top of us. My sister, who was older than I by about 4 years, screamed and dashed aside, knocking me and my pail of whelks flying into a deep hole of water. She then fell over the top of me and we both got entangled in the seaweed. After frantic struggling and scrambling, we got out on to the bare rocks and then, without even looking backwards, we tore for home, leaving out whelks and good tin pails behind us in the ebb. It had a long smooth neck, devoid of any hair, with a head like a comic horse or cow and with large protruding eyes that didn't blink. It made a hissing noise while water dropped from its chin and water sprayed from its distended nostrils. Now, I would have been about 10 or 11 years old at this time and not guilty of seeing things that didn't exist, but the picture of this strange animal is still clearly in my mind. I've never seen anything like it since and, therefore, am a bit doubtful as to its real size. I now realize that it could have appeared enormous to us, as we were both up to the knees in water and, in addition, were both bending down when this thing reared its long head and neck over us.
Then in Tim Dinsdale’s book on the Loch Ness Monster ,the following appeared: A sighting of a SEA SERPENT by BILL HUTCHISON
---------------------
It was on a beautiful day in August 1910 that my father along with my cousin and myself decided to take our sail-boat to the Skerries of Work in Orkney to shoot duck and plover.
We had a twelve-bore shotgun and a Martini Henry rifle aboard. The latter fired a heavy lead pellet. We had rounded the Head of Holland and got about halfway between the north point of the Head of Holland and the skerries of Work when we observed a school of whales to seaward of us leaping out of the sea so dar we could see the land of Shapinsay Island below their bellies when they jumped. It was a wonderful sight to see these creatures - some of them sixty feet long - crashing down on the sea sending the water up in spray. We watched fascinated until they had disappeared from view, heading for the open sea.

My father was steering and when the whales were out of sight he looked ahead and I heard him say: "My God, boys, what's that?" We looked where he was pointing and saw a creature standing straight up out of the sea. It had a snake-like neck and a head like a horse or camel. At the distance it was away from us, a hundred to a hundred and fifty yards it stood about the height of our boat mast - eighteen feet - above the sea. My father turned the boat to port heading for the land, bringing the creature abeam on the starboard side. I jumped for the rifle which was under the deck and loaded but my father whispered "Don't shoot, Bill, you might wound it and it will sink the boat". This was a disappointment as I should have liked to have killed it and find what the creature really was. We sat very quiet as the boat headed for the land and shallow water. I held the loaded rifle intending to make a fight if the creature attacked us.

The wind was light and we were not leaving it quickly behind so we had a good opportunity to watch it for about five minutes before it slowly began to sink straight down and the water closed over its head without a splash. We now expected it to attack us as we were all sure it had been chasing the whales. It looked as if it could have picked us out of the boat one by one without much effort. However we re The colour of the creature was dark brown with lighter stripes across the neck. The head resembled that of a horse or camel and appeared to be very large for the slenderness of the neck were they joined. Probably the best description is if one can imagine an enormous brown giraffe with its body submerged and only the neck showing at water-level would be about three feet and gradually tapering upwards. We reached shallow water and saw no more of it.

Then in 1919, a lawyer, Mr J. Mackintosh-Bell, was on holiday in the Orkney Islands. On the morning of August 5th, from the deck of a cod-line fishing boat, off Hoy, he saw a monster with 'a long neck as thick as an elephant's front leg, all rough looking like an elephant's hide'. He described the head as like that of a dog, with small, black eyes.
The most famous of these encounters has to be the story of The Stronsay beast in 1808. The Stronsay beast was first sighted on September 25, 1808, lying on rocks at Rothiesholm Head, in the south-east of the island. John Peace, a local man, fishing off the coast, was puzzled by the sight of seabirds flocking around what looked like an animal's corpse on the rocks. Turning his boat, and watched by another Stronsay man, George Sherar, Peace made his way to the carcass. But what he found was unlike anything he had encountered before. Lying on the rocks were the remains of a large serpent-like creature, with a long, eel-like neck and three pairs of legs. At the time, the corpse was inaccessible, so closer examination was impossible. However, ten days later, a gale blew the decomposing remains ashore.Sherar now had his chance to examine the corpse. The beast was described as serpentine, measuring exactly 55 feet long, with a neck measuring ten feet three inches long. The head was like that of a sheep, with eyes bigger than a seal's. Its skin was grey and rough to the touch. However, if stroked from the head down the back, it was said to be as "smooth as velvet". Six "limbs" extended from the body and a bristly mane of long, wiry hair grew from the beast's shoulders, down to its tail. These silver coloured bristles were said to glow eerily in the dark.
"Its flesh was described as being like 'coarse, ill-coloured beef, entirely covered with fat and tallow and without the least resemblance or affinity to fish'. The skin, which was grey coloured and had an elastic texture was said to be about two inches thick in parts.Account of the Stronsay Beast as reported in The Orcadian newspaper.
Because the remains had rotted away to practically nothing, the four men who had originally examined the carcass were taken to Kirkwall and they had to swear to the magistrate that their information was the truth.
The details of the find reached the ears of a Natural History Society in Edinburgh. At the society's meeting in November 1808, the creature was given the Latin name Halsydrus Pontoppidani. The name, meaning Pontoppidan's Water Snake of the Sea, was in honour of the 18th century Norwegian bishop, who collected reports of sea-monsters.Then the naturalist Sir Everard Home read of the Stronsay Beast. He viewed what was left of the evidence. He thought the creature was nothing more than the remains of a decomposing basking shark.
Dr Yvonne Simpson, a geneticist from Orkney, has researched the evidence and suggests that the Stronsay Beast may indeed have been an unusually large Basking shark. The basking shark, Cetorhinus maximus, is the second largest living fish, after the whale shark. It is a cosmopolitan species and is found in all the world's temperate oceans. Geneticist Dr Yvonne Simpson has researched the Stronsay Beast and presented a lecture on it to the Orkney International Science Festival in September of 2008
See website here: http://www.theangloscot.co.uk/ Dr Yvonne Simpson,
However the beast was measured to be 55 feet long from tip to tail, so the shark that decomposed to form the Stronsay Beast must have been a monster of sharks!.
All the sea beasties reported cannot have been basking sharks. One or two sound like walruses or elephant seals, but fishermen would recognise these creatures so there is always the seed of doubt, that perhaps it was a real sea monster one of the witnesses saw.

Pigman or bigfoot?

Woman terrified after spotting ‘half-human half-pig’ by the road

Terrified driver speaks out decades after encounter

TERRIFIED woman claims she came face to face with a half-human half-pig monster.
The woman, known only as Patty, spotted the ungodly beast while driving on a remote road in 1983 — and has been too scared to speak about it until now. She was driving home to Murray, Kentucky, when the 7-ft creature leapt from a cornfield. She said: “I saw a tall, slender creature on the side of the road. “I would describe it as a cross between a primate, a pig, and a human - mischievous but not harmful."“It was using his arms and legs, and headed in to the marsh-type land going towards Kentucky Lake.”
The unidentified ogre — believed by experts to be a potential ‘Dogman’ — was hairless with pink skin, long arms and torso, human hands and short legs. It also had a long neck, a small head with pointy ears, “intelligent eyes” and a pig-like snout.

So pigman. dogman or bigfoot?
There is a legendary condition called cynocephaly, which means having the head of a dog or a jackal. The word is taken from the Latin word cynocephalus "dog-head" and is often found in Greek myths and old legends. Stories of dog headed people exist all over the world in legend and folklore .
There are also reports of a Bigfoot in Kentucky see report here:

Is there a new creature roaming Kentucky? Be interesting to see if more reports surface.

This evening at 10pm. I saw a large cat in my back garden. It was the size of a small dog. Squat (chunky) with only a stub of a tail. Its face seemed to have a beard, and there were small tufts at the tip of each ear. Its legs were short and thick, with large paws In colour I would say that it was a light tan.The cat ran off over my garden before disappearing over the fence onto Sapley Road Hartford. I have never seen anything like this before.

Sighting. 10pm Thursday 24th Sept 2015. Location Hartford Huntingdon.

Mammoth cloning imminent?

Russia: New laboratory to study mammoth cloning
By News from Elsewhere...BBC
Russia has opened a laboratory in Siberia devoted to the study of extinct animal DNA in the hope of creating clones, it's reported. The new lab in Yakutsk - often called the world's coldest city - will "seek out live cells with a view to cloning", says Semen Grigoryev, director of the Mammoth Museum at the city's Northeastern Federal University. He tells Ogonek magazine that "the priority is to look into bringing back the mammoth", adding that the Beijing Institute of Genomics and South Korea's Sooam Biotech company, which has pioneered dog cloning, will be involved in the study.
Earlier this year, researchers at Harvard University announced they had copied 14 woolly mammoth genes into the genome of an Asian elephant. The scientists at Yakutsk's new facility hope that their own unrivalled collection of 2,000 or so remnants of prehistoric animals, ranging from primitive dogs and horses to mammoths, will help to identify quality cell tissue from which to extract useful DNA. The story has provoked considerable excitement in Russian social media, with many speculating about whether this will lead to the birth of an actual mammoth hybrid. But others ask whether the priority should actually be to help save existing species which are on the brink of extinction, rather than trying to revive those which have been gone for thousands of years.

Werewolves conference in UK

The itinerary for the UK's only werewolf conference

By Laurence Cawley BBC News

With international papers, workshops and a keynote speaker, a three-day conference to be held at the University of Hertfordshire next month resembles most other academic gatherings. What makes this one different is the subject matter: werewolves.
Lycanthropy is a word not often heard.
First coined in the 16th Century, it means the (mythical) transformation of a person into a wolf.
On 3 September - four days after the next full moon - many of the world's leading experts in lycanthropy will gather at the University of Hertfordshire for the UK's only werewolf conference.

Monster or something else?

What is this 'Roch Ness Monster' washed up at Hollingworth Lake?
   By Amy Glendinning
Adele Battersby found the four foot-long beast lying dead on the shore of the Littleborough lake and it's enough to give you nightmares. Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, this huge creature – dubbed the Roch Ness Monster – was found washed up on the shores of the Littleborough lake on Sunday afternoon.
