Irish lake creatures.

In the absence of any breaking news in the crypto-universe thought I would look at ,as far as I know, Ireland's most famous lake monsters.

Rumours about a sub-aquatic monstrosity in Lough Ree have been around for many centuries.. The Life of Saint Mochuda mentions it, helpfully adding that it had devoured a man. Lough Ree was also reputed to hide an underwater city complete with a cathedral. It is said that a bishop once tried to visit it and never returned.Interest in the Lough Ree Monster was rekindled in the 1960s, by respectable men of the cloth. Several churchmen saw "the monster" - Father Quigly, Father Murray and Father Burke, fishing off Holly Point.
What the priests allegedly saw, is recorded by Peter Costello in his book ;Search of Lake Monsters: "It was moving... It went down under the water and came up again in the form of a loop. The length from the end of the coil to the head was 6 feet (1.81m). The was about 18 inches (45cm) of head and neck over the water. The head and neck were narrow in comparison to the thickness of a good-sized salmon. It was getting its propulsion from underneath the water, and we did not see all of it".
A sketch is supposed to exist, which shows two objects breaking the water, one is a hump, the other a long neck-like protrusion. This report was not the first and over the previous 30 years, several anglers claim to have been towed by a a strong unseen creature until forced to cut their lines. Other witnesses are mentioned, but nothing on par with the sighting of the three priests.
Colonel Harry Rice, in his 'Thanks For the Memory', wrote how a friend had seen the creature some eight years previous and had described it as looking "for all the world like a dozen barrels of porter strung together"
In June 2001 an expedition of the Global Underwater Search Team tried to get to the bottom of the monster stories through surface monitoring and a dropping a hydrophone into the water. The evidence recorded was inconclusive and consisted of a "peculiar sound" and a small object swimming in the lake.
Another strange creature of the Irish lakes is the Dobhar-Chu of Lough Mask. Also called the dobarcu or dhuragoo, this "water hound" has been reported to attack people. It is described as sort of looking similar to a large otter, white in colour with black ear tips and black across the back. It is said by some to look like "half wolfdog/half fish".There was a report in 1684 of it attacking some one and leaving the water all bloody.
Lake monsters or strange lake dwelling creatures are reported all over the world. There are surely too many to be a coincidence. The sightings may be simply of large eels or fish but the similarities between many sightings in different parts of the world suggest something is going on .

A Mysterious Animal Ate an Entire 9-Foot Great White Shark

Scientists: A Mysterious Animal Ate an Entire 9-Foot Great White Shark
By James Baker
Scientists in Australia tagged a healthy nine-foot great white shark as part of program to track these animals. Four months later they found the tracking device washed up on a beach. Something—something really big—had eaten this apex predator. But what creature could dine on such ferocious prey?
The recovered device showed a rapid temperature rise and a sudden 1,900-foot change in depth. That's all the information the scientists have

I would guess it was a giant squid or could it have been a cryptid?

Hybrids and Global warming ..could it be the explanation for cryptids?

Are Warming Arctic Temperatures Spawning New Hybrid Whales?
By Ria Misra
As Arctic temperatures rise and the ice melts, animals that once had separate migration patterns are suddenly encountering each other — and that could lead to some new animal hybrids. Tim McDonnell over at Nautilus has written a piece about just what the increased interaction between Arctic species could mean. Sometimes it's as simple as increased competition for food or for space, but it can also mean the possibility of new hybrid animals. Incidences of "grolar" — or polar/grizzly hybrid — bears are already pretty well documented, and scientists are also looking into the possibility that a bowhead/right whale hybrid has recently been spotted. But, those two hybrids could be just the tip of the proverbial (and rapidly melting) iceberg. Polar biologists have been looking at other species that could also produce hybrids, including a variety of whale and seal species — and these new hybrids could have serious implications for the survival of those species:

Why is this important? What if  cryptids are hybrids as a result of ice ages and global warming in the past? Things like the fact that jungles in central Africa were grass plains approximately 10,000 years could have changed the way some animals lived and evolved .

Latest discoveries sound like something from a horror movie.

Mega-croc vs supersnake: Researchers reveal 16-foot, 900-pound ancient species of crocodile that battled with 58 foot Titanoboa snake 60 million years ago
By Mark Prigg
Researchers have revealed a 16-foot, 900-pound ancient species of crocodile that battle with 58 foot long snakes that swam in the same rivers as Titanoboa 60 million years ago in the world’s oldest-known rain forest. The terrifying reptile, which has an unusually blunt snout, had an incredibly strong bite, the researchers say.The claim the discovery sheds new light on the diversity of early rainforests, and how adaptable crocodiles are. The new species in the dyrosaurids family, lived alongside the 58-foot Titanoboa as portrayed in the Smithsonian Channel documentary on the 'monster snake.' Scientists assigned the species’ name, Anthracosuchus balrogus, in a study appearing online today in the journal Historical Biology.

The incredible sea slugs discovered living in Strangford Lough
By Linda Stewart –
Up to seven species of sea slug new to science could have been found in Strangford Lough. Fifteen divers who searched the lough last week have found more than 60 species of sea slug, including two that have never been found there before.Among the finds on the 'Nudibranch Safari' were seven sea slugs that will undergo testing to find if they are new, unnamed species.Seaslugs are predators and some are capable of taking on the defences of their prey, such as poisonous chemicals and stings, to use in their bodies to fend off attackers. One slug takes the green parts of seaweed into its skin so it becomes photosynthetic.

The Comb jelly does not follow traditonal evolution discovery

Carl Zimmer for National Geographic
A close look at the nervous system of the gorgeously iridescent animal known as the comb jelly has led a team of scientists to propose a new evolutionary history: one for the comb jelly, and one for everybody else."It's a paradox," said Leonid Moroz, a neurobiologist at the University of Florida in Gainesville and lead author of a paper in today's Nature about the biology of the comb jelly nervous system. "These are animals with a complex nervous system, but they basically use a completely different chemical language" from every other animal. "You have to explain it one way or another."The way Moroz explains it is with an evolutionary scenario—one that's at odds with traditional accounts of animal evolution.

This is good news for cryptozoologists  because its means cryptids could have evolved differently and therefore be unknown to modern science .
