Is seeing believing — and vice versa?
You believe easily that which you hope for earnestly.— Terence, 195-159 B.C.
In the early afternoon of June 10, 2006, some adults and a group of children were cleaning up the beach at Jefferson Head in Kitsap County, near Indianola, when some of them heard what sounded like a woman or an animal screaming or screeching. An animal looking "nothing like a bear" walked out of the marsh, they said, became startled when it saw the girls, and crouched behind a piece of driftwood. The girls were frightened and ran from the beach to their vehicle. One of the girls, 18, said the creature looked like Bigfoot from the "Harry and the Hendersons" movie. Two years later, on July 1 at 10:30 p.m., a man was driving on Indianola Road NE toward the Miller Bay Road when he says his headlights showed two large, hirsute, upright creatures running ahead of him at about 30 miles an hour. They were nine to 10 feet tall, he said, with pointed heads, no necks, and bulky, thick shoulders covered with black hair. The motorist, who guessed them to weigh 500 to 800 pounds, watched them for six to eight seconds before they ran into the forest. Both these events were investigated by a Jim Von Lossow of the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization, who gave them both a Class A rating, meaning they ranked among the most reliable of all reports of Bigfoot sightings."Seeing is believing," as the proverb goes. But consider the converse: "Believing is seeing." In the case of Bigfoot and other legendary figures, which comes first, "seeing" or believing? If someone sees the face of the Virgin Mary in a pizza, is the Virgin's face really in the pizza? In this country, belief in the existence of a Bigfoot-like creature goes back as least as far as the 19th century when white settlers picked it up from Native American lore. Some believers have spent decades searching for proof of Bigfoot's existence — tracks, hair, sound recordings, or irrefutable contacts accompanied by un-doctored photos or films.

Animal Planet has recruited the best Bigfoot researchers in the world for the new series” FINDING BIGFOOT. It will be a six part series following a team of Bigfoot researchers as they cross the country in search of the elusive man-ape.The BFRO Team is made up of a former roadie, a teacher of science, a skeptic, and the BFRO President. With the birth of this show, rumors have begin to circulate, with the biggest and most sensationalistic one being that the researchers found concrete evidence supporting the existence of Bigfoot. With hair, plaster casts, recordings, video, and more, it’s hard to imagine what they found outside of a body, and some people have said that it is exactly what they discovered.
